Director of Discipleship & Faith Formation - Cathedral of Saint Andrew, Grand Rapids


Oversee, implement and execute all parish faith formation programs for the Cathedral of Saint Andrew.  Provides direction to the director of Religious Education and administrative support.  Reporting to the Rector of the Cathedral of Saint Andrew, Father Rene Constanza, CSP.  This is an exempt salaried position with an effective date of August 15, 2018.

Primary Duties (but not limited to):

• Is knowledgeable of, supports, implements and promotes the catechetical tenets of evangelization and discipleship formation of the Church, integrating those tenets into parish life.
• Proclaims the Gospel primarily through implementing the parish’s philosophy and vision of lifelong formation in faith.
• Collaborates with the rector, associates pastors, staff and parishioners to identify potential catechetical and formation needs in the parish from Baptism catechesis through Adult Faith Formation.
• Collaborates with the Director of Religious Education to implement and execute all aspects of the children’s program.
• Help form and support small Christian communities in the parish.
• Recruits and forms effective adult catechists and leaders to help implement the vision and parish goals for faith formation.
• Communicates at weekly staff meetings to priests and other staff members what is happening in Faith Formation and other times during the week. 
• Originates and responds to e-mails, phone calls and requests for resources from various parish ministries.
• Prepares reports and expertise to the pastor, staff, finance and pastoral councils.
• Participates in the parish process for creation of the annual faith formation budget.
• Works/collaborates with the staff of the Catholic Information Center.
• Point of contact for anyone interested in RCIA, adult formation, adult confirmation.
• Coordinates the RCIA program, including inquiry classes and retreats.
• Collaborates with staff members and parishioners to organize events.
• Works with and maintains relationships with various diocesan departments, committees and initiatives.
• Tends to own ongoing formation through participation in opportunities for professional development.
• Other tasks as assigned by the Rector. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required:

• Masters of Theological Studies, Ministry, or related field
• 4-6 years of progressively responsible experience in a pastoral and/or religious education formation setting.
• Practicing Roman Catholic
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to present to small and large audiences; strong interpersonal skills
• Must be able to effectively work independently and work collaboratively with teams.
• Able to foster and support an inclusive environment.
• Detail-oriented with ability to schedule and prioritize.
• Effective computer skills (Microsoft Office products)
• Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
• Ability to support the budget process and generate reports as required.
