Director of Community Life

The Director of Community Life is a leader, responsible for cultivating and communicating with a vibrant Catholic parish and to the larger community beyond. Leads and manages the Community Life Department, and reports to the Director of Ministry Strategy. Under the Director’s leadership, the Community Life department implements the mission, values, and goals of the parish’s strategic plan. In particular, the director is the champion and primarily responsible for implementing the RNCC (Reception, Navigation, Communication, Connection) Initiative consistently and with excellence throughout the parish’s structure and programs. Leads and manages the parish’s communications platforms and channels, as well as parishioner (“customer”) service and information systems.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Leads and manages the Community Life department, including employees and volunteers
  • Develops and manages department program activities, plans, and budgets
  • Oversees and manages parish communications and media
  • Oversees and manages parish reception and information activities
  • Oversees and manages parishioner services, especially facilitating navigation to ministries, and registration for parish programs
  • Cultivates social programing and groups
  • Implements the RNCC initiative throughout parish structures and programs
  • Reports to the Director of Ministry Strategy
  • Attends weekly department-head meetings
  • Attends monthly staff meetings
  • Other responsibilities as needed


  • College degree
  • Professional experience in communications/media, especially in a media or public-relations agency
  • Experience working across departments and serving a large variety of constituents
  • Managing complex projects and staff
  • Familiar with website design and maintenance, professional graphic design and print software platforms (Adobe Creative Suite), and social media channels
  • Excellent written communications skills
  • Excellent customer-service skills
  • Ability to build complex systems, programs, and processes
  • Highly organized, self-managing, project-oriented, detail-oriented
  • Confirmed, practicing Catholic in good standing
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license
