Director of Ministry Strategy (Part-time)

The Director of Ministry Strategy is a leader, responsible for creating and implementing ministry plans and programs that advance the parish’s mission, vision, values, and strategic goals. They evaluate programs and curriculum and make recommendations to the pastor. Must be theologically educated, with leadership experience in creating and directing parish-level ministry programs. Supervises the department heads, reports directly to the pastor, and serves on the executive team. Recommends and evaluates ministry staff. Along with the executive team, guides the annual ministry planning and budget process. Works with the pastor and parish council, continuing to evolve the parish’s ministry strategy to advance its mission and values.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Reports directly to the pastor
  • Works closely with the parish council and serves on the executive team
  • Leads and supervises ministry department directors
  • Develops and manages department program activities, plans, and budgets
  • Manages ongoing strategic planning
  • Evaluates, develops, and approves ministry programming under the direction of the pastor
  • Leads the ministry departments in annual planning and budgeting
  • Works with other parishes and ecclesiastical structures to further the mission of the parish
  • Leads weekly department head meetings
  • Attends weekly executive team meetings
  • Other responsibilities as needed


  • Minimum of a Master’s-level degree in theology
  • At least 10 years’ experience in creating and directing parish-level ministry programs
  • Experience in managing senior-level staff, especially in a parish or nonprofit organization
  • Experience in evaluating and developing ministry curriculum and initiatives
  • Experience in annual planning and budget cycles
  • Experience in working with other parishes, nonprofits organizations, and ecclesiastical structures
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
  • Highly motivated and self-managing
  • Confirmed, practicing Catholic in good standing
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license
