"Jesus was a missionary, sent by God to preach, serve, and witness to the Reign of God. He was a message of the incredible love of God, forgiving sinners, including those usually excluded by polite religious society, healing the sick and driving out demons, challenging women and men to live in reconciliation with their neighbors, and even with their enemies.”
(Bevans and Schroeder in Prophetic Dialogue: Reflections on Christian Mission Today p. 117)
One Family in Mission
The diocesan missions office promotes the missionary life of the Church and serves as the diocesan center for mission animation, education and awareness.
The office represents the Pontifical Mission Societies
in the United States, which include the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, the Missionary Childhood Association, the Society of St. Peter Apostle, and the Missionary Union of Priests and Religious. These programs fall directly under the authority of the Holy Father in Rome. Their primary purpose is the promotion of a universal missionary spirit – a spirit of prayer and sacrifice – among all baptized Catholics.
