Discovering Faith

Each of us expresses some manner of faith; belief in, devotion to, or trust in somebody or something.  Whether it is faith in ourselves or our loved ones, in money, our car, our talents, or God; faith is alive in and throughout our lives and we couldn’t function without it.  We have faith that we will live for tomorrow or we would never make plans for the future.

Faith in God is affirmed by saying: "I believe" or "We believe."  Belief is an ‘acceptance that something is true or real, often underpinned by an emotional or spiritual sense of certainty’.  Belief also births trust, ‘a confidence that somebody or something is good or will be effective’.  If we have faith in God, then we believe and trust that God is true and real.  As we search for meaning and purpose in our lives, God reveals himself and gives himself to us. On our journey of faith, let us first consider that search for God, the Revelation by which God has come to meet man, and finally our response.

“The desire for God is written in the human heart, because man is created by God and for God;
and God never ceases to draw man to himself. Only in God will he find the truth and happiness
he never stops searching for:”
(Catechism of the Catholic Church)
