10 Diocesan Schools
Receive Kremer Grants
The
George and Mary Kremer Foundation
announced that 10 schools in the Diocese
of Grand Rapids have each been chosen to
receive a tuition grant in the amount of
$9,500 for 2008-2009. The diocesan schools
are Holy Name of Jesus (Wyoming), Ludington
Area Catholic, Muskegon Catholic Central
Elementary, Sacred Heart of Jesus (Grand
Rapids), St. Andrew, St. Charles (Greenville),
St. Joseph (Pewamo), St. Joseph (Wright),
St. Mary (Big Rapids), St. Stephen (East
Grand Rapids). The Foundation will award
grants to diocesan schools nationwide totaling
$950,000.

from the Diocese of Grand Rapids will join Pope
Benedict XVI and young people from every continent
to attend the international gathering of WYD in
Sydney, Australia. More information is available

Michigan bishops launch stem cell
education program

Hurley along with the bishops of all 7 Michigan
dioceses, through the Michigan Catholic Conference,
have launched an extensive internal educational
program to communicate the church’s teaching
on stem cell research within the context of the
sanctity of human life. The program is entitled
The
Science of Stem Cells: Finding Cures and Protecting
life. Every registered Catholic
household in the state, over 500,000, will receive
a letter signed jointly by the diocesan bishops,
along with a 12 minute DVD and a brochure which
explain the different forms of stem cell research
and the church's support for using adult stem
cells.
