Happy Fifth Anniversary, Bishop Walkowiak

Image: Bishop Walkowiak's episcopal ordination, Cathedral of Saint Andrew, Grand RapidsJune 18 marked five years since Bishop David Walkowiak's episcopal ordination

Pope Francis was just four weeks and five days into his papacy on April 18, 2013, when he named a parish priest from Cleveland as the 12th bishop of the Diocese of Grand Rapids. Two months later on June 18, Father David J. Walkowiak was ordained and installed as bishop. On the day of his ordination and installation, our bishop also celebrated his 60th birthday.

Since then Bishop Walkowiak has visited nearly every parish and school in the diocese and launched initatives to strengthen our Catholic schools, vocations to the priesthood and diaconate, and ministry to Hispanic Catholics. Going forward, evangelization remains his top priority.

"My dream is that everyone grows stronger in their faith and love of the Lord," he says.
