Catholic Information Center (CIC) celebrates 70 years of sharing the faith, fellowship

by Kelly McLaughlin

Approximately 185 people, including diocesan priests and Paulist Fathers from around the country, joined
Bishop David Walkowiak at an Oct. 14 Mass and dinner marking the 70th anniversary of the Catholic Information Center and the Paulists’ ministry in the Catholic Diocese of Grand Rapids. Several attendees shared stories of how the Catholic Information Center (CIC) helped them grow in faith and fellowship with one another. An apostolic blessing to the Paulist Fathers from Pope Francis was on display.

“Together, [the Catholic Information Center and Paulist Fathers] have shared not only information about the faith, but also the faith, hope and love in our own lives,” said Father Eric Andrews, president of the Paulists. “Our ministry together has made it possible for countless numbers of people to become baptized and make full professions of faith in the Catholic Church.”

The dinner was one of four major anniversary events planned for the year. The first was a July pilgrimage from the CIC’s previous locations to its current home at Cathedral Square. The CIC plans to host a Mardi Gras party on Feb. 3, 2018. The annual Mardi Gras party was a staple at the CIC during the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s. For ticket information, visit catholicinformationcenter.org or call 616-459-7267.

A fourth family-friendly event is slated for June 16, 2018 (details to come). Special 70th anniversary programming is also being offered throughout the year.
