Carmelite Nuns, Discalced (OCD)

Carmelite NunsAbout:
The vocation of the Discalced Carmelite Nun is a vocation to a life of prayer, of intimacy with God.  Saint Teresa of Avila wished her nuns to live this life of prayer and sacrifice with the church and for the Church, especially for priests.  Through the Mass, which is the center of their day, and the Liturgy of the Hours, which extends the Mass throughout the day, the Carmelite joins herself to the unceasing praise and supplication which Christ offers to the Father for the salvation of the whole world.

The Carmelites of Grand Rapids have celebrated 100 years in the diocese-  1916 – 2016.  Originally located on the west side of Grand Rapids at Valley and Walker, the Monastery moved to Parnell just outside of Grand Rapids 25 years ago.

Their daily Mass is open to all who wish to attend.  To learn the current Mass schedule, call the prayer line at: (616) 691-7764.

The Sisters welcome young women to learn more about their life of prayer by contacting the Monastery for a personal visit.
