Bishop Walkowiak's statement on the death of Francis Cardinal George

Francis Cardinal George, OMI, Archbishop Emeritus of Chicago, died shortly before noon (Central Time) on April 17, 2015 at age 78, amid his third bout with bladder cancer. Read Bishop Walkowiak's statement below:
“A great leader and servant of Christ has been called home to the Lord. Francis Cardinal George was one of the Church’s great intellects, yet also a humble man who put the needs of others before his own. He was a respected leader, making a great impact in the governance of the Catholic Church in the United States as well as the worldwide universal Church. Cardinal George visited West Michigan many times over the years to spend time with his sister, Margaret, and her family who live in Grand Rapids. May God grant him eternal rest. Please join me in prayer for his family and for the people of the Archdiocese of Chicago."
